Polymeric ruthenium precursor as a photoactivated antimicrobial agent

چکیده
Ruthenium coordination compounds have demonstrated a promising anticancer and antibacterial activity, but their poor water solubility low stability under physiological conditions may limit therapeutic applications. Physical encapsulation or covalent conjugation with polymers overcome these drawbacks, generally involve multistep reactions purification processes. In this work, the activity of polymeric precursor dicarbonyldichlororuthenium (II) [Ru(CO)2Cl2]n has been studied against Escherichia coli Staphylococcus aureus. This Ru-carbonyl shows minimum inhibitory concentration at nanogram per millilitre, which renders it novel antimicrobial polymer without any organic ligands. Besides, is markedly boosted photoirradiation, can be ascribed to enhanced generation reactive oxygen species UV irradiation. able inhibit bacterial growth via disruption membranes triggering upregulation stress responses as shown in microscopic measurements. The ruthenium an material significant even 6.6 ng/mL while remaining biocompatible mammalian cells much higher concentrations. study proves that simple precursor, [Ru(CO)2Cl2]n, used compound high toxicity profile context need for new agents fight infections.

One of the major advances in medical science has been the development of antimicrobials; however, a consequence of their widespread use has been the emergence of drug-resistant populations of microorganisms. There is clearly a need for the development of new antimicrobials--but more importantly, there is the need for the development of new classes of antimicrobials, rather than drugs based upon...

There is an urgent need for new antibiotics and alternative strategies to combat multidrug-resistant bacterial pathogens, which are a growing clinical issue. Repurposing existing approved drugs with known pharmacology and toxicology is an alternative strategy to accelerate antimicrobial research and development. In this study, we show that celecoxib, a marketed inhibitor of cyclooxygenase-2, ex...

In modern medicine the resistance to conventional antibiotics is becoming a serious concern due to high instances of mortality. Several metallic nanoparticles are suggested as promising anti-microbial agents against multidrug-resistant bacteria and some viruses. Among the nanoparticles mentioned, we review the recent finding which demonstrate the impact of silver nanoparticles on antimicrobial ...
